When is a good time to switch my son from crib to toddler bed?
My son just turned 2 and I have a piece for his crib that allows me to put a rail onto his crib where he can't fall out, but can get out and in by himself. Like a toddler bed. When is a good time do this?
I suggest that you ask him, and involve him in this decision. At the age of 2 kids can communicate with you and express their opinion.
If your son is not trying to climb out of the crib on his own yet, there is no rush to make this move, but you are getting close to the right time for transition.
You don't want to make the transition when he isn't ready. It could upset him. He might like the crib the way it is because it gives him some sense of security.
However, you don't want to wait too long because if he does begin to try to climb out, he could get hurt. So make the change before he starts climbing.
The simple answer is to make the change when you are comfortable making it. And just ask him! He may be excited by the transition. Turn it into a celebration of becoming a "big boy".
