Toddler Bed Guard

Introducing a twin bed to my toddler? What age is too early?
My daughter is 1 yr old and I am pregnant with my second child. I want to be able to use my daughter's current crib for the baby. My daughter will be 19 months old when the baby is born. Do you think that would be too early to introduce her to a real bed with guards? Cribs are so expensive and I feel that it's pointless to purchase another crib when my daughter will be out of hers in such a short time after. What do you think?
I was in your boat once. My children are 16 months apart and I wanted my daughter in a "big girl" bed before my son was born for the very same reasons. Five days before she turned one, my husband put together a toddler bed given to us by a friend with older children. She slept in it that night. No problems whatsoever. She never rolled out of the bed once, never got up in the middle of the night wandering, either. Probably won't have the same experience with all kids. But, she is four now and we've yet to have any bedtime problems with her, so I guess she was ready! I think it would be great to start trying now, that way your child has time to get use to it before the baby comes. Talk to your toddler about the transition. Let them know how they are growing up and don't need a "baby bed" anymore. Congratulations and good luck!
