How do you keep your newborn warm in the winter?
I keep reading about overheating and the risk of SIDS. However, my baby is due Feb 3 and it will be cold and snowy. We usually turn the heat down at night to save on electricity and use more blankets. Plus, the room heats up FAST when the heat kicks on, even at a cooler setting. How do you keep your baby from getting overheated/cold? I know they kick the blankets off and I suppose you would swaddle them. Dont there noses and fingers get cold? Is it better for them to be a little cold then to get overheated as as far as the risk of SIDS?
For our 2 month old we use a blanket sleeper and a Halo sleep sack or wearable blanket. https://www.halosleep.com/ (its been down in the 30s at night here already!)
Her little fingers and nose do get a bit chilly, but as you've said a little cold is better than the risk of SIDS. Plus, I know my nose is cold in the morning after a chilly night, even under lots of blankets. Since you'll have an infant I'd use a warm sleeper and a swaddle blanket, a bonus to the swaddle blanket is she'll sleep better, and a hat to help with the heat loss from the head. Then keep your room at your normal temperature. A trick I learned from my grandmother when my oldest was a baby is to check under the babies armpits to see if they're too hot or too cold and then adjust accordingly!
