My 5 year olds security blanket?
My 5 year old son (almost 6) still loves his "blankie". I'm not really bothered that he does or doesnt but feel it's time he goes with out it. His mother (with whom I'm divorced from) disagrees.
Question: Is it reprehensible if I hide his security blanket from him in order for him to be less reliant on it? And also hide it from his mother? He can go without it without any drama but would prefer that he just not use it at his age. Any comments????
Your son feels the need to have a blanket for security, so do not take it away from him. He has already had the security of a home life with Mom and Dad taken away. Let him decide in his own time when he doesn't want or need his blanket. If you try and take it away now he will probably turn to something else to find the security he needs. Put more of your energy in being a loving, caring, and understanding father to your son. Try and get along with your ex-wife, it is so much healthier for your son and for you. A divorce is extremely hard on a child, as parents we never really know for sure what is going on in thier little minds. He needs both you and your ex to be thoughtful and kind towards one another.
