tap water vs. nursery water for infant formula?
My 3wk old has been acting very odd during his feedings lately. I.E. Crying, not wanting to eat a whole lot sometimes, very gassy. So i bought mylicon for the gas. which sorta helped. then i bought gripe water. seems to have helped on the crying. i also bought a new bottle a soothie one. and a gallon of nursery water hopeing to help him. I was using tap water. Well i just gave him his new bottle with the nursery water mixed with his formula neosure and he almost ate a full 3 oz!!! he was eating 1-2oz. im so excited. what do you think helped? was it the water? or everything lol!
he was using NUK bottles. and he is also a preemie. and was a month early.
My son's pediatrician said to make sure it had flouride!! so guess everyone is told different!
they said it was fine to use tap water. but i think it has a lot to do with the baby. every baby is different and can handle different things. =]].
My daughter from the time she was born until 2 months had boiled tap water strained through a coffee filter for her water. This helps by allowing your baby's tummy to get use to they water they will normally be taking in. At 3 weeks old he should be wanting around 2 oz a feeding. It may not be that he has gas that is hurting him. My daughter is 7 months old and lets off gas alll the time. But doens't seem too annoyed by it and she's had it from birth. So as I said we went from boiled tap water, to warm water from the tap, to luke warm water from the tap. Use to when I was in town I'd have to make sure she had a bottle of water from home cause she wouldn't drink the city water, now she drinks whatever.
If you are too concerned about it take him back to the peds and see what they recommend. Sometimes the benefits of nursery water outweigh the risks. Such as the fluride.
