Just bought a medela Pump in Style Advanced. What else do I need?
Hi Ladies,
I just purchased a medela Pump in Style Advanced breast pump. Do any of you have this one, and what do you think of it? Also, my main reason for asking the question is, would you recommend me purchasing some of the extras for it or will I eventually need anything else to go along with it? Especially since I am thinking about exclusively pumping, maybe. Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

The pump comes with just about everything you need. You may however have to buy different sized breast shields, but you will probably have to wait until the baby is born and you are actually pumping before you know for sure. The pump comes standard with 24mm shields, but many women have different sized nipples. I had to buy the next size up to pump comfortably. You may also want to buy an extra set of hosing, especially if you plan on EP. Also extra bottles. You can buy more of the Medela, but they are quite expensive. The Gerber Clearview bottles attach to the pump perfectly and are way cheaper. I pump into the Gerber bottles, but feed my son with BornFree bottles. The pump comes with 2 extra membranes and that will do you for about 4-5 months as you will probably have to change them after 2 or 3 months so you can just buy more when the time comes. Other than that you should be good to go. You may want to invest in some nipple ointment to soothe them because they are going to be super sore for the first week or two. Medela makes a really good one that I still use on occasion if my nipples are feeling tender.
