Medela Pump In Style?
A woman donated a Medela pump in Style to me, or at least I am pretty sure that is what it is, as that is what it says on the dial in the front of the bag. What accessories for it should I purchase new? I dont even know the exact model and I definatly have no idea how to use it. It is a nice pump and I know it definatly wasn't cheap as it has a nice carrying case too. I just need to know what I need to purchase before I can use it. Do I need new tubing, shields, or what? Sorry I am a soon to be first time mommy and I am so confused!
Also where can I find directions on how to use it. I have no way of getting into contact with this woman, so I am clueless!
ok. first of all, DON'T be sorry for asking the question. You should be very proud of yourself for doing whats best for your baby.
The pump in style is a good pump. (i have one) regardless of the models, it should all use the same shields, however, they reccommend that you don't share those with previous owners. The valves and white 'membranes' should be replaced as well. When you buy replacement kits, they often come with tubing but its not neccessary to replace the tubing b/c milk does not flow through them. They are only involved with applying the amount of suction you want (what ever you're most comfortable with in order to express milk most effectively.)
if tubing doesn't come with whatever accessories you purchase, you don't have to buy it separately.
When you go into the hospital, a lactation consultant can help you decide which size shields are most comfortable for you.
Being a first time mom, you'll most likely be comfortable with the standard size.

The tubing does NOT need to be replaced b/c no milk flows through it.

i reccommend that you DO go with getting new shields, valves and "membranes" and maybe even get an extra packet or two of the white membranes. They're inexpensive.
i always seemed to lose those little things, so having some extras came in handy. Especially since the pump won't work without them.
