Britax Marathon?
I have a 4 month old, who weighs 14 lbs. My mom just bought us a Britax Marathon to use because I had been complaining about his infant car seat - the straps are not loosening up at all and it's getting hard to get his arms in the straps.
Has anyone ever used the Marathon on a baby at such a young age and weight? It makes me a little nervous because it's such a big seat. I have a head restraint I can attach to it. I know I won't be able to use this seat as a carrier, but I do have a sling that I use, so that's not a huge deal right now.
Anyone who has any advice, I would be so happy to hear it!
My son was around that weight but 5 months old when we started using the Marathon seat. It's awesome!!! First off when rear facing the straps need to go from behind his shoulders, and over which in the lowest setting did this perfectly. Take off the little shoulder pads - they are for forward position only as per the manual. The chest pieces (the gray pieces on the straps where the chest buckle is) where almost too big but they grow so fast it wasn't an issue for more than a week, they didn't interfere but looked funny.
The seat is very deep and at 4 months I am sure your little one can hold his/her head up on their own. They fit in there really snuggly even though it looks so big. You'll also find the way the strap releases with the locking mechanism and then being able just to pull the strap tight with one hand once the buckles are done up to be super easy. Especially when they do get bigger and decide they don't want to go for a car ride. My son is 7 months and 18 lbs now and very mobile. I can get him held down with one hand and buckled and strapped in with the other with a minimum of fuss!
It took a bit to get used to it but I am in love with it now. It was so easy to install with the Latch system that I did it myself. The manual has great pictures and instructions. Just give it a chance, it is rated for 5lbs and up so it will certainly be safe for 14lbs!!
