I have extremely full breasts but i cant breastfeed my baby and i don't have a breast pump. What should i do?
I caught the H1N1 virus and 4 day old baby girl is in the hospital due to high numbers of jaundice. I an home alon and i cant go any were. I ws put on bed rest. Is there a way for me to empty out my breasts?

Warm compresses or a warm bath or shower will help. But 4 days post-partum is when engorgement starts to get really bad - expect to have very uncomfortable breasts and quite a bit of leaking for a few days.
But you can't usually get a lot out of your breasts by hand-expressing. You can do enough to ease the pressure, but not enough to keep up your milk supply. If you plan to continue breast-feeding, I suggest sending a friend or husband out to pick you up a breast pump ASAP. My lactation consultants recommend Medela or Ameda (or Lansinoh - it's also made by Ameda) brands and say that the other brands are so bad that the Medela Harmony (manual pump) would be better than getting even a double-electric non-recommended brand. The Harmony is about $35. I'm actually surprised the hospital would not provide you with a pump if your baby is hospitalized.
