any suggestions for a long trip with my 1 year old baby girl?
i have never taken her anywhere that is longer than an hour away and soon we will be going on a 11 hour trip to visit my stepsister. i have no idea how to keep her occupied or how to keep her from getting restless in the car for that long. she can't walk yet just crawls. also, she won't eat table foods yet. just gerber 2nd foods. have you been a long trip with a baby before? if so, how did the baby react and what did you do? also, any suggestions on the food?
We just came back from a long trip with our 11 month old daughter.
We flew 6 hours and at our destination we drove for 8 hours. Not in one go though.
What I can recommend for the car ride is to keep a box with toys for her next to her car seat. She can retrieve them and play.
Also plan to have lots of stops in between. I noticed that my daughter just couldn't sit any longer after three hours. We didn't think of that at first, so the car trip that would have taken maybe six hours then took more than 8 hours in the end.
Bring her baby food jars, if that is what she eats, and maybe some baby cookies and plenty to drink.
A CD or cassette withchildren'ss songs is also something to consider.
I would start the journey sometime around one of her sleeping times, that way your daughter might sleep for a few hours and won't get bored.
But the most important thing is, in my opinion, to calculate lots of rest breaks for all of you to stretch your legs and to get out of the car.
By the way, the plane ride was totally different from the car trip. She was so occupied with all the new things to see and hear on the plane that she didn't get bored at all. And even for me this was the shortest 6 hour plane trip I ever had, because I was so occupied with her.
