Advice on beginner sewing and embroidery?
I an interested in learning how to sew flannel receiving blankets and embroidering towels, blankets etc. for my new grandson. I have no sewing or embroidery experience, what type of machine would you recommend? Also, would you recommend lessons or is this something I can learn at home?
I'd suggest a class and not putting money into more machine than you need. Once you've got a class or two under your belt you will get a better idea of what you will need in a machine. I got a new one a couple of years back and it is more than I needed and I still sometimes go back to my almost 20 year old basic Singer machine.
On a side note, I'd like to share that my aunt made several burp rags out of flannel (diaper flannel) and they were my most cherished item during his baby-hood. When he no longer needed burp rags, I made a quilt out of them. What you are making for your grandson will be cherished so enjoy making them.
