How do I get my 7.5 month old out of my bed and into her crib!?!?!??
I'm a single mom and I started co-sleeping with her at 3 months so we could both get some sleep...she hated her crib and still does. I think its because she has knocked her head on the wooden slats a few times and she is afraid. I made it inviting for her to be in there: a few stuffed animals, FP aquarium, soft blankie, etc...she also likes to breastfeed when she sleeps with me...it puts her to sleep right away....any thoughts??? Did I spoil my baby??? No stupid answers please.
I can't let her CIO b/c I live in an apt....people will complain.
You haven't spoilt her at all - it's completely normal for a baby to crave the closeness of her mother / caregiver and it also means you can make of her - she won't be little forever and you'll never get these moments back again.
However, if you want to get her into her own bed, I'd start by putting her in it for naps to start with, preferably in the room in which you want her to sleep in at night. You can try some soft music, sitting next to her at first, maybe reassuring her or patting her until she goes to sleep. When she gets used to this, start putting her in to her crib for naps when she is awake and leave her to fall asleep on her own. (If she cries don't go straight in to her, leave her time to calm herself down. If you do go, keep it brief, reassure her, and leave her again etc etc). When you have this pattern well-established, you start doing the same for nighttime - eventually leaving her to fall asleep alone in her own bed and room. It might take a few weeks but if you're consistant it will work.
What I did with my daughter (who also hated her crib) was to put her in a queen size bed in her room from the outset (with secure netting around it so she can't fall out obviously) and I used to go and sleep with her, meaning she was used to her own bed from the outset. I put her down for her naps alone and she went to bed alone at night - I'd just go to her when it was time for bed for me.
When I decided the time had come for her to sleep alone (when she stopped breastfeeding at night - about 8 months) I bought a sofa bed and put it in her room and slept on that for a while - it meant I could go to her if she was really distressed without bringing her into my bed - (she never was distressed and took the whole separate sleeping bit fine - so don't worry about spoiling your daughter, you're not, you're doing what a lot of mothers do and when she is ready you should be able to transition her out of your bed without a problem.
