Is 14 months to early to put a child into a big boy bed?
We are moving here in a month and expecting another child (hence the move for an upgrade) In the new house we want to set up the nursery with our sons bed room set we have now and buy a new big boy bed for our son.
Is 14 months to early? He's already trying to climb out of his crib but we lowered it all the way down witch is preventing him now but for how long?
We thought it would be best to just get him over to his big boy bed now. Then come the summer time when the new baby is due our first son will already be in his big boy bed and it won't be some big thing getting him out of his crib..
Suggestions on how to do it too would be great!! We were thinking about just starting out with a mattress for the bed on the floor for him to get used to.
No it would be great! If he's climbing out of his crib, he's ready. If you haven't bought the new bed yet, take him to pick one out or show him big boy beds online or at the store and talk about it with him and how he's a big boy, gonna be a big brother and how awesome his new bed will be. He may not really get it and that's ok. I would try to switch him over either now or shortly after the move. Then dress up the crib in a baby fashion for the new baby and put a doll in it. Practice putting the baby to bed so that when the new baby comes, he doesn't feel like his crib has been "stolen" and will be excited not only about his new bed but putting the new baby in the "baby bed". I would also suggest the side railings for a little while for his new bed. They sell them just about anywhere and there are some inexpensive breathable ones online at walmart.com just to make the adjustment easier and prevent him rolling out of the new bed. Good luck!
