Baby Italia Convertible Crib
There are many reasons why buying a convertible crib is the best choice: appearance and longevity of use being the two most important. But some parents are a little confused when it comes to this particular piece of nursery furniture. Hopefully, the following advice will help you choose the one that is right for you.
Convertible cribs are becoming increasingly popular with most baby furniture manufacturers offering various types and collections. Their popularity isn't hard to understand. Many love the look of these cribs, with their high headboards and sturdy designs. As well as aesthetic appearance, many parents appreciate that these items, though more expensive than traditional cribs, will save them money in the long term.
There are two types available; 3-in-1 and lifetime. 3-in-1 models convert from a baby crib to toddler bed to day bed. This cuts out the need to buy a toddler bed later on and Baby won't be too upset making the transition and the bed will look, feel and smell the same.
Some models come with optional straight rails that are used when converting to a toddler bed - these rails stop a baby from rolling out of the bed.
Recommendations for 3-in-1 models would be Bonavita, Bassett and Babi Italia cribs. They range considerable in price, with the Babi Italia being the cheapest. 3-in-1's lend themselves nicely for period styles; the Bonavita is quite opulent in feel, whereas Bassett cribs draw inspiration from America's past.
Lifetime convertible cribs - sometimes called lifestyle cribs - are more expensive than 3-in-1 models. A lifetime crib will convert a stage further into a full size bed. The back rail becomes the headboard later on. You just about always have to by a conversion kit as an optional extra. If you are planning on converting into a full size bed in years to come, do make sure you buy the additional items you need at time of purchase. Manufacturers are constantly updating their collections and chances are that when you later need the kit, the company will have stopped making that model.
Recommendations for lifetime models would be Bassett, Bellini and Munire cribs. As stated before, Bassett draws inspiration from different eras in American history. You get a good idea what you expect from the names of the collections: American Home, Newport, Cottage Pine and Timber Creek.
Munire cribs are expensive but they beautifully made. The also draw design inspiration from times past but the styling is definitely more opulent. Munire nursery furniture comes with fine detailing and finishes. The Munire Newport is just one of the collections currently on offer. It is an understated piece of furniture but still comes with exquisite design touches like fluting on the footboard.
When buying a convertible crib you really should try to buy quality. There's no point in buying a bed that isn't going to last your child until they reach adulthood. Cheaper brands may look great in the showroom but you have to ask yourself if they will go the distance.
